Silvy: My education background is in Engineering Business from Silpakorn University, Thailand. This is my second last semester in Illinois State University as an MBA student. I am currently working as a GA in College of Business. 

Pinjia: Next semester will be my last semester in ISU, and my education background is Accounting from DaLian University, China. I'm glad to study everything about Data Analysis here.

Suputtra: I did my bachelor's in Engineering Business from Silpakorn University, Thailand. Now, I am a full-time student at Illinois state university, but I've taken an online class in Thailand. I am going back to the USA the next semester because that's my last semester. I am great to be a part of MKT 440. Thank you.

Paii: My background is in accounting and auditing for financial services industry Thailand. I’m also currently an independent CPA auditing financial statement of the companies in Thailand remotely. This is my last semester in the ISU MBA program where I expect to graduate this May.

Nate: My background is in finance and consulting. I'm currently working as a graduating assistant for the MQM department. This is my last semester in the MBA program here at ISU.

What is SQL and How does it work?

    Structured Query Language, commonly known as SQL, is a standard programming language for relational databases. which is so common with computer programming or who uses databases to collect and organize information. Because SQL can be used to share and manage data, particularly data that is found in relational database management systems, which include data organized into tables including multiple files, each containing tables of data, also may be related together by a common field. Using SQL, you can query, update, and reorganize data, as well as create and modify the schema (structure) of a database system and control access to its data.

          Using SQL, you will create a database instance in the cloud. Through a series of hands-on labs. For example, storing data on every client your business ever worked with, from key contacts to details about sales. Moreover, if you wanted to search for every client that spent at least $5,000 with your business over the past decade, an SQL database could retrieve that information for you instantly.

      SQL for data science is more straightforward than the other programming languages. It is typically user-friendly for beginners comparing with Java, C++, PHP, or C#.

Course Experience

 

        The SQL for Data Science course is great for anyone who is looking for the basic knowledge of SQL and doesn’t require any prior knowledge of programming or other languages. As a comprehensive and well-structured course, it provided simple and straightforward introduction to SQL and several of useful commands. Sadie St. Lawrence, the instructor, articulated the course content in an effective manner. She could speak clearly on every concept and usage of SQL command. The level of difficulty will gradually increase; however, the lecture is easy to understand and follow. All of the course work and materials are very digestible. Since the presentation of the lecture is downloadable, it’s very convenient to take notes.

        Also, intermittent quizzes within courses/videos, including knowledge-based and coding, are also designed well to enhanced learning by making the course more engaging and active. We could check our understanding and knowledge on what we have learned so far and ensure that we thoroughly understand the course contents. The most interesting thing about the course is the final assignment which was very thorough and helped put together lots of focused questions we might encounter using SQL as a data scientist. After finishing this course, we learned how to effectively use SQL to work with different types of data, as well as, learned how to professionally prepare, manage, and interpret data for analysis purposes.
